Rightly called the laboratory of architecture, Bagalkot – a district carved out of Bijapur district recently; is a haven of natural reserves like lime stone, granite, pink granite, dolomite and more. The natural reserves lend itself to manufacturing cement, with large national players building a stronghold here.

However, the legacy is deeply entrenched as it is the house of the world famous monolithic rock cut caves at Badami, the world heritage site at Pattadakal and the stunning sculptures of Kadamba style in Aihole ensuring the name stays high. The district is also rich in handloom traditions with the famous illkal saree, considered a high significance to the state identity, belonging to this region. This too has drawn immense attention with the government declaring an exclusive textile and handloom cluster in illkal.

Bagalkot is teeming with SSI units waiting to take flight. Over 8,288 units deliver across a large range of sector including agriculture, food processing, textile and handloom industry, sugar cane and ethanol production, general engineering and building materials. Adding impetus to this the government has proposed specific industry parks, IT and BT parks plus the most popular 250 acre agro food park proposed at Bagalkot.

Infrastructure is also on fast track as UKP project nears completion and is set to irrigate the drought prone 62.2 million hectares land. The region is well supported by Almatti Dam that caters to the horticulture produce of the region.

The new district is a focal point of development with MOU of US $7.71 Billion from the earlier edition of GIM. The investment span an industry gamut of cement, sugar production, ethanol and alcohol, steel and iron ore, hotels and hospitals and agri-product exports. This year too, the district offers wide opportunity in urban, agri and industry Infrastructure, energy, mines and minerals and cultural tourism to showcase the rich repository of state’s culture icons.
